Mariah Carey
All we wanted for Christmas was a Mariah Carey Christmas special.
And, thanks to YouTube, it's happening.
The Google-owned video platform announced Monday that Carey will star alongside YouTuber Rudy Mancuso in a new holiday special titled The Keys of Christmas. It will debut on YouTube Red on Dec. 19.
Dave Meyers -- who is behind music videos such as Katy Perry’s “Firework" -- will direct the special, which also features musical performances by Alex Aiono, Boyce Avenue, Nicky Jam, Bebe Rexha and Gregory Brothers. Boxing legend Mike Tyson, DJ Khaled, Ciara and Fifth Harmony are also featured in the special.
The show -- executive produced by Carey, Magic Carpet Productions, Endemol Shine Beyond USA, Just Entertainment Studios and Adam Paul -- focuses on Mancuso as he goes "on a magical adventure of the true meaning of Christmas." It "uncovers what happens when you accidentally go off the grid on Christmas Eve with no phone and no way to function on this festive night," according to the news release.
One can only hope the special will include a group number to Carey's holiday classic.
“Music is wildly popular on YouTube and we're excited to bring together some of the biggest names in music alongside some of the biggest stars on YouTube. The musical icons and rising artists in The Keys of Christmasbring this new holiday tale to life,” said Ben Relles, Head of Unscripted for YouTube Originals, in a statement. “We are also thrilled to have YouTube comedy star Rudy Mancuso in his first leading role in a music special.”
